One bad thing though you really need a RGN trailer to move it. I have a Cat D8H it is easier to do a nice job with it then the smaller dozers we use to use.Still can find trees that are to big though. Right now, there is the oval track style with the 6 way blade and one or two elevated sprocket models. For a while I think there we 3 differnt size D6's out there. Very versatile, very quick, great finish machine, (I was used to running one, from when I worked construction as an operator ) Not big enough if doing a lot of hogging, or removing large trees, but generally a great machine. I rented a JD 650 with a 6 way blade this spring. We didnt think we would use it much and got over 200 hrs on it in a little over 6 months. We farm very steep hill ground and the D5B 26X will pull about the same as a 8650 just alot slower. On the down side it doesn't have the 6 way blade and is slow, but you can farm with it. It has the same undercarriage as the D6 9U, D5B 26X has the 3306 which will last longer than any deere engine. Our JD 650H is a good little guy for light work, If you want a more versatile crawler, the Cat the D5B 26X is a excellent choice. It's a 28000 lb machine so it's moveable, it's easy to operate, a lot cheaper to work on than a cat or Deere, and is capable of doing a lot of work with a good operator running it. For instance are all d6 dozers about the same size or do the lettering mean something other then vintage? Sorry I only referenced Deeres as they are the only Dozers I have expirience with.īut for whatever you do if want to be able to finish grade you will want a 6 way blade. I think a 25-30k lbs machine would be awesome! I didn't think I was going to need to move as much dirt as I did otherwise I would got my cousins 850. I cleared the top soil off my new shops building site with a 450 Deere and it was not much fun fighting that. A lot of 850 size Deeres around here too which are great but something bit smaller would still easily do everything most farmers need. The next thing to consider is how are you going to move it from farm to farm? Semi with a trailer or a tilt bed behind a tractor? A better operator could make it work, but I would think a d5-6 would be a good size. We have a d4 and its not really big enough for waterway overhauls. Wouldnt get anything smaller than a 5 cat or 750 John Deere. I've got a Deere 850 LGP, and love it, lot of D6c cat's running around here too. I'd say a 6, the times I've ran a 4 the shorter length was always making it more difficult, but I'll be the first to admit I only think I'm a good operator. Same would apply to dozers I think.Ī good operator can do more with a 4 can someone who thinks they are good operator can do with a 6. Someone on here mentioned on once that excavators are only ever too big when your moving them.
